Creative Block? Try These 5 Ideas to Get Unstuck

PAPERAGE Sketchbook and Pens

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” -Maya Angelou

Being creative is a state of mind and requires regular practice to cultivate. But what happens when a creative block strikes and you feel stuck? Don’t wait for creative inspiration to just show up, get out your sketchbook, pens, pencils, or paints, and start playing.

One of the best ways to work through a creative block is with a sketchbook challenge. We’ve curated a list of some of our favorite resources to help restart your creative engine!

    1. The Sketchbook Generator by artist Jennifer Orkin Lewis is a unique mix-and-match book divided into three separate sections that can be flipped, mixed, and matched to generate more than 100,000 unique sketchbook prompts!

    2. Rhianna Wurman (@ellolovey) hosts a monthly Doodle-A-Day challenge over on Instagram. Each month includes a list of words on a single them to inspire a drawing each day.

    3. Kick in the Creatives offers lists of challenges you can start at anytime or find something no matter what month you're looking to start a challenge.

    4. Get inspired with Jess Karp's YouTube video on 5 Ways to Fill Your Sketchbook.

    5. Try your hand at a 100 Day Doodle Challenge. Ask a friend to join you for added accountability.
